Buccaneer Bay’s Kiddie Area Closes for Renovation, New Slides Coming to Weeki Wachee

Weeki Wachee Springs State Park’s Buccaneer Bay water park has closed its kiddie area for renovation — but the trade is a big one: a new full-size water slide and an enclosed flume slide are going in to replace it.

The rest of Buccaneer Bay stayed open through the work, with the park’s headline attractions running as usual: the live Mermaid Show, the Ranger Experience program, the Wilderness River Cruise, and the animal exhibit. Registration is also open now for the park’s Jr. Mermaid, Jr. Ranger, and Jr. Lifeguard camps, which tend to fill up well before the sessions actually start.

For families planning a summer trip around the water park specifically, the kiddie area being down is worth knowing before you go — everything else, including the new slides once they’re finished, still makes it worth the trip.

Good to know: Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is at 6131 Commercial Way, Weeki Wachee. Open daily 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; adult admission $13, ages 6–12 $8.
