Thirteen things are happening in Hernando County between Friday and Sunday, and exactly one of them is the thing everybody already knows about. The rest are a country band at a Hernando Beach bar, free live music inside a winery in Masaryktown, glow-in-the-dark pickleball, and a bonsai workshop at a Brooksville brewery.
Here’s the whole weekend, by day, with what each one actually costs you in time and money.
Friday, August 14
Tide for a Cause — Florida Springs Council · 4 to 9 p.m.
A taproom fundraiser at 14311 Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill, running five hours from late afternoon into the evening, with proceeds going to the Florida Springs Council.
Worth noting who that is if you live here: the Springs Council is the advocacy group that works on the water quality of exactly the springs this county is built around. Weeki Wachee is not an abstraction to them. If you were going to drink a beer somewhere Friday anyway, this is the one where it counts for something.
Saltwater Cowboys at The Lazy Lizard · 6 to 10 p.m.
Live country at The Lazy Lizard, 3192 Shoal Line Blvd in Hernando Beach. Four hours, right on the water.
This is the closest thing the county has to a standing Friday night answer — a waterfront bar with a band, no ticket, no drive to Tampa. The Lazy Lizard books live music regularly, so if Saltwater Cowboys aren’t your thing, the room usually is.
Citrus & Sage Bookshop art party · 6 to 9 p.m.
Three Brooksville businesses — Citrus & Sage Bookshop, Good Smells Inc. and Traveling Art Parties — running one combined night at 309 S Main St. Wine and snacks are included in the ticket.
Two practical things the listing is explicit about: arrive at least ten minutes early for check-in, and it’s non-refundable. Decide before you book, not after.
“Funny how?” comedy · 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Stand-up at 21509 Snow Hill Road in Brooksville, headlined by Stefano Capicotto with Shannon McKee hosting.
The listing describes it as a small room with limited tickets, which is the honest version of what a Brooksville comedy night is. If you want the bigger production, that’s Saturday at Stage West — but a small room is often the better night.
Saturday, August 15
Paint Your Pet & Permanent Jewelry · 10 a.m. to noon
Arts N Tails and AION Permanent Jewelry running a combined session at 813 S Broad St in Brooksville. You paint your own pet; the jewelry side is welded-on rather than clasped.
Grand re-opening on South Broad · 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
671 South Broad Street in Brooksville is marking August 15 as a grand re-opening, running an extended day — 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. rather than their normal 10 to 6.
Normal hours the rest of the time are Tuesday through Sunday, so if you miss Saturday the shop is still there Sunday.
Comic book inking with Billy Merryman · 2 to 3 p.m.
A one-hour workshop at The Artist’s Realm, 9 N Georgia Ave in Brooksville, on the tools and techniques that turn a pencil sketch into finished inked artwork.
An hour is a genuinely low commitment for a workshop, and it’s in the same building as the evening session below — you could reasonably do both and eat somewhere on Main Street in between.
Mick Luke, live at the winery · 4 to 7 p.m. — free
Three hours of live music inside the winery on Phillips Road in Masaryktown, and entry is free.
Reservations are worth making — the listing gives a number, 352-308-0110, and says to call and reserve a seat. “Inside the winery” is doing real work in that sentence in the middle of August; this is an air-conditioned afternoon, not a field.
Free live music, indoors, on a Saturday afternoon is about as good as the value math gets around here.
Galaxy Glow Pickleball Tournament · from 4 p.m.
Glow-in-the-dark pickleball at 99 Jerome Brown Place in Brooksville. Grab a partner and play under the lights as it gets dark.
Twisted Oddities at The Artist’s Realm · from 6 p.m.
Lunar Curiosities and The Artist’s Realm running an oddity-crafting evening at 9 N Georgia Ave — you make and take a piece.
Spring Hill Comedy Night: Mike Rivera · 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Laffs2Go presents Mike Rivera — HBO, ABC and Showtime credits — at Stage West Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd in Spring Hill.

Sunday, August 16
Bonsai & Brews at Broad Street Brewing · 2 to 4 p.m.
A beginner-friendly bonsai workshop at Broad Street Brewing Co., 291 E Jefferson St in Brooksville. You have a beer, you build a tree, you take the tree home.
Broad Street is downtown Brooksville’s first brewery and the third to open in the county — more on the brewery itself here. Sunday afternoon is the quiet shift there, which suits a workshop.
Savasana & Sound · 5 to 6:30 p.m.
A sound bath at 12560 Spring Hill Drive — singing bowls, gongs, ocean wave drums and chimes, led by Alana and Asia. Ninety minutes.
It’s the last thing on the schedule all weekend and it ends at 6:30 on a Sunday, which is either perfectly judged or slightly cruel depending on your Monday.
Already looking past this weekend
Two things worth putting in the calendar now. The Second Annual New Works Festival runs August 21 to 23 at Stage West Playhouse in Spring Hill — three days of new material. And Brooksville Main Street’s Sip & Shop Social returns August 28, 5 to 8 p.m., as it does monthly.
If none of it lands, the county’s standing options don’t go anywhere: the Spring Hill Farmers Market runs every Saturday on Commercial Way, and there’s always the mermaid show, which has been running since 1947 and will be running next weekend too.
