Hernando County’s calendar is nearly empty tonight and tomorrow night, then packs almost everything into one Saturday. Here’s what’s actually on, in the order it happens.
Ten real, confirmed events across five days, from a 17-and-up true-crime walking tour to a wiener-dog race — nothing here is a guess at what might be happening, and nothing’s padded in to round out the list.
Wednesday, Oct. 14 & Thursday, Oct. 15 — Haunted Hernando History Tour. A guided walk from the county courthouse through downtown Brooksville, covering real unsolved arsons, murders, and bootlegging tied to specific addresses. Groups are capped at 15, the subject matter is restricted to ages 17+, and tickets ($25) only go through the Historic Hernando Preservation Society’s Facebook page — nothing sold at the door. The Society’s the same nonprofit behind the May-Stringer House museum and the county’s historic markers program, so this is its one after-dark event rather than a side hustle. 6:30-8:30 p.m. both nights. Full details here.
Friday, Oct. 16 — Harvest Night Market. An evening open-air market hosted by Artisan Haven BVL at 134 E Fort Dade Ave, Brooksville, 5-10 p.m., with artisan vendors and food both inside and outside the space. It’s a different address and a different crowd than the daytime Saturday farmers market on Commercial Way — this one’s built for an after-work browse, not a morning grocery run.
Friday, Oct. 16-18 — The Addams Family at Stage West. Stage West Community Playhouse’s musical staging of the Addams clan, with Wednesday Addams’ engagement to a “normal” guy driving the plot. Runs this weekend and again Oct. 23-25. Full details here.
Friday-Saturday, Oct. 16-17 — Wild n’ Wicked Nights at Weeki Wachee Springs. The same underwater theater that’s run its live mermaid show since 1947 switches to a Halloween version called “The Pumpkin King,” running three showtimes a night alongside a haunted house, a haunted maze, and a separate non-scary Halloween Town area with games and photo ops for younger kids. 7-11 p.m., $12/person ages 3+, Eventbrite tickets only — no walk-up sales, and annual passholders don’t get a discount on this one. Repeats Oct. 23-24. Full details here.
Saturday, Oct. 17 — Downtown Street Market: Oktoberfest & 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off. Brooksville Main Street’s monthly market goes Oktoberfest this round, with local chili makers competing for a public vote. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., free, 101 S. Brooksville Ave. Full details here.
Saturday, Oct. 17 — The 9th Annual Running of the Wieners. Dog races by weight class all afternoon at Marker 48 Brewing, dachshunds last, benefiting Brew Good Do Good. Starts at noon, $25-$35 to enter a dog, free to watch. Full details here.
Saturday, Oct. 17 — Barks & Bargains at the Airport Farmers & Flea Market. The county’s biggest flea market, up to 400 booths on 19 acres, goes pet-friendly for the day. 8 a.m.-3 p.m., free admission. Full details here.
Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 17-18 — Brooksville Pumpkin Patch Festival. Masaryk Winery’s pumpkin patch actually runs every Saturday and Sunday from Oct. 10 through Oct. 25 — this weekend is the middle stretch, and the one with a full festival built around it rather than just a patch to walk through. Expect local vendors, kids’ activities, wine tastings, desserts, live music, and pumpkin chucking every weekend it’s open. 10 a.m.-3 p.m., free entry and parking, 19125 Phillips Rd.
Saturday, Oct. 17 — Lisa Kay & The Gold Top Band at The Lazy Lizard. Live music on the waterfront deck in Hernando Beach, one of the stronger working bands in the Tampa Bay circuit. 6-10 p.m. Full details here.
Sunday, Oct. 18 — Spring Hill TOY JAM. Toy, comic, card, and collectibles vendors fill VFW Post 8681’s hall for a few hours — a monthly-ish show, not a one-off. 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Full details here.
Every Saturday regardless of what else is going on, the Spring Hill Farmers Market runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Commercial Way with 40-plus vendors — worth building the morning around before heading to any of Saturday’s other events.
Where these are: most of this week’s events cluster around downtown Brooksville and Marker 48 Brewing, both a short drive from each other off Cortez Boulevard, while Weeki Wachee Springs, the Airport Flea Market, and The Lazy Lizard sit farther out toward Spring Hill and Hernando Beach respectively. Saturday’s the day to plan around if you’re only picking one.
Worth the drive: Hamilton returns to Tampa’s Straz Center. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 21, Morsani Hall runs the touring production for 24 shows through Nov. 8 — its longest Tampa engagement yet. From Brooksville it’s close to an hour down the Suncoast Parkway and into downtown Tampa, so plan around rush hour if you’re catching an evening show. Parking isn’t included in the ticket price, and the Poe Garage across the street fills early once the pre-show crowd starts arriving. Full run dates and ticket info here.
