Home cooks, local chefs, and whoever else wants a shot at it are squaring off on South Brooksville Avenue this Saturday for the title of Best Chili in Brooksville.
Brooksville Main Street — the same group behind the monthly Friday Night Live concert series at Hernando Park Bandshell — runs its Downtown Street Market as an Oktoberfest edition this month, built around the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off. Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., anyone attending gets to sample the competing chilis and cast a ballot for the winner, alongside the market’s usual lineup of local vendors.
Admission is free, parking downtown is free, and Main Street is specifically pitching this as a reason to walk the actual downtown block afterward rather than just the market footprint — Brooksville’s independent restaurants and boutiques are a short walk away either direction on Main Street.
This is the second year for the chili competition specifically, riding on top of a market series Brooksville Main Street already runs monthly. If you’ve caught Friday Night Live at the bandshell before, same organizers, different weekend. Brooksville’s own guide covers what else is on that same stretch of downtown year-round.
Good to know: 101 S. Brooksville Ave., Brooksville. Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Free admission and parking.
