The 9th Annual Running of the Wieners Takes Over Marker 48 Brewing This Saturday

Dachshunds don’t race for trophies most weekends, but Marker 48 Brewing’s parking lot turns into a dog track every October for exactly that.

The 9th Annual Running of the Wieners runs Saturday, Oct. 17, starting at noon, with races sorted by size through the afternoon: large dogs (45 lbs and up) at 2-3 p.m., medium dogs (15-45 lbs) at 3-4 p.m., small dogs (under 14 lbs) at 4-5 p.m., and dachshund-only heats starting at 5 p.m. — the event’s actual namesake race saved for last.

Registering a dog costs $25 in advance through Eventbrite (cutoff is Friday, Oct. 16, at 11 p.m.) or $35 same-day. Every entered dog gets a custom collar charm, a doggy bag of treats, and a race-day scarf, with trophies for the top three finishers in each weight class. Proceeds go to Brew Good Do Good, a 501(c)(3).

Nine years running makes this one of Hernando County’s more established recurring events, not a one-off novelty — it’s grown alongside Marker 48 itself, which sits on Cortez Boulevard between Brooksville and Spring Hill. If brewery-hopping is the actual draw, Broad Street Brewing downtown is the other option in the county.

Good to know: Marker 48 Brewing, 12147 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville. Saturday, Oct. 17, starting at noon. $25 advance / $35 day-of to enter a dog; free to watch.
